The 1st Annual "Nowhere But Brooklyn" Block Party!
Presented by Le Dakar Restaurant & Where's the 1? Productions

On Saturday, August 12, Grand Ave in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, will close between Lafayette and Clifton in order to host the grandest spectacle of the summer!

Chef Pierre Thiam (Yolele African Bistro, Le Dakar Cafe), and Where's the 1? Productions present the first annual Nowhere But Brooklyn Block Party, an all-day free block party taking place Saturday, August 12 on Grand Ave, between Lafayette and Clifton.

Chef Thiam has been recognized for his culinary expertise by leading New York City periodicals, as well as Bon Appetit; most recently, he was featured by Time Out New York’s July 27 issue for his class linking African and African American cuisine, offered at the Institute of Culinary Education. In addition, he has opened his establishments to local visual and performing artists, and he has hosted some of Africa’s luminary musicians, including Baaba Maal, Mansour Seck, Julia Saar, and Les Frères Guissé for inimitable, intimate acoustic performances. Teaming up again with local African music promoters Where's the 1? Productions, Chef Thiam presents Nowhere But Brooklyn, the summer’s greatest spectacle to celebrate Brooklyn arts and culture and the grand opening of his newest endeavor, Le Grand Dakar Restaurant.

This marks the first time that Chef Thiam will team up with Grocery Mota, situated on the same block, who has thrown a Lucha Libre tournament for the last 11 years. Where’s the 1? Productions and Thiam will catapult this annual event into a full-blown block party, combining Bomba and Plena drummers from Puerto Rico, Sabar drummers and dancers from Senegal, a fashion show with local designers Harriet’s Alter Ego and Moshood, a Haitian drumming processional, DJs spinning retro Afro-funk and reggae, and delicious Senegalese street food prepared by Thiam. After the day is finished, Thiam invites guests to stay for dinner at the restaurant and enjoy a special performance by Senegalese folk/roots sensation Pape Armand Boye. The swirling sights and sounds, smells and sensations, all present on one block on the same day in Clinton Hill will leave the crowds shaking their heads, exclaiming, “Nowhere but Brooklyn!”

Schedule for the day:
12pm – Puerto Rican Lucha Libre (masked, theatrical fighting)
1pm – Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena drumming
3pm – Haitian drumming processional
4pm – Fashion show featuring designers from Harriet's Alter Ego and Moshood
